However, sometimes thoughts become so persistent and intrusive that they begin to take up too much space in daily life, creating anxiety and making it difficult to find peace of mind.

Intrusive thoughts can return again and again, even when a person understands that these thoughts are not helping to solve the problem. Many people describe this experience by saying: “I can’t stop thinking about it.”

“I keep replaying the situation in my head.”

“My thoughts won’t leave me alone.”

Over time, intrusive thoughts can contribute to anxiety, emotional exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, and a feeling that it is impossible to relax or focus on anything else.

Working with a psychologist can help you better understand the reasons behind intrusive thoughts, reduce their impact on your daily life, and gradually regain a greater sense of calm, control, and emotional balance.

How Intrusive Thoughts Can Manifest

Intrusive thoughts can be related to many different concerns and life situations.

Sometimes they may show up as:
• repeatedly replaying the same situations in your mind;
• anxious thoughts about the future;
• endlessly analysing your words, actions, or decisions;
• fear of making mistakes;
• persistent doubts and mental checking;
• constant worry about loved ones;
• repeatedly thinking about the same situation;
• difficulty letting go of something that has happened;
• feeling unable to get thoughts out of your mind;
• thoughts that are difficult to distract yourself from;
• feeling unable to stop or control your thoughts;
• repeatedly returning to painful events from the past;
• replaying conversations and events over and over in your mind;
• a strong need to anticipate and control everything;
• difficulty concentrating because of racing or repetitive thoughts;
• a sense of mental exhaustion, tension, and overwhelm.

Many people who struggle with intrusive thoughts notice that the harder they try to suppress, control, or get rid of the thoughts, the more frequently they return and the stronger the inner tension becomes.

If several of these experiences feel familiar and you notice that they regularly interfere with your quality of life, psychological support may be helpful.

Intrusive thoughts are often associated with anxiety, chronic stress, intolerance of uncertainty, excessive responsibility, or a strong need to maintain control over what is happening.

When Counselling May Be Helpful

Psychological support may be helpful if intrusive thoughts are taking up a significant amount of your attention, making it difficult to relax, make decisions, or feel at peace.

Some people notice that they keep thinking about the same issues over and over again, repeatedly replay unpleasant events, or find it impossible to stop worrying about the future. Over time, these repetitive thought patterns can become a source of chronic anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and persistent inner tension.

For example, if you find yourself constantly returning to the same worries, endlessly analysing past events, feeling overwhelmed by concerns about the future, or noticing that your mind continues working even when there is no objective reason to be anxious.

You may also benefit from counselling if you experience difficulty concentrating, a sense of losing control over your thoughts, constant mental tension, or emotional exhaustion caused by relentless overthinking and worry.

Intrusive thoughts are often accompanied by anxiety, excessive worry, and a feeling that you must constantly prepare for potential problems. If these themes feel familiar, you may also find it helpful to learn more about support for anxiety and stress: Anxiety and Stress

A constant stream of thoughts and difficulty relaxing are also often associated with stress and inner tension. If these experiences feel familiar, you may also find it helpful to learn more about support for stress and inner tension: Persistent Inner Tension

In some cases, intrusive thoughts may be accompanied by intense anxiety, feelings of losing control, and episodes of overwhelming fear. If these experiences feel familiar, you may find it helpful to learn more about support for panic attacks: Panic Attacks

A strong need for control, fear of making mistakes, and constant analysis of situations are also often associated with perfectionism. If these themes feel familiar, you may also find it helpful to learn more about support for perfectionism: Perfectionism

Intrusive thoughts and constant self-analysis can also be reinforced by a harsh inner critic and excessively high expectations of yourself. If these themes feel familiar, you may also find it helpful to learn more about support for the inner critic and self-criticism: The Inner Critic and Self-Criticism

Many people seek support because managing intrusive thoughts on their own becomes increasingly difficult. Working with a psychologist can help you better understand the causes of intrusive thoughts, reduce anxiety, and gradually develop a calmer, more balanced, and resilient relationship with your thoughts and emotions, while reducing their impact on everyday life.

How the work is structured

During counselling, we explore not only the intrusive thoughts themselves but also the emotional experiences, beliefs, and life circumstances that may contribute to their development and repetition.

Over time, it becomes possible to better understand your reactions, reduce the impact of anxious and intrusive thoughts, develop greater flexibility in directing your attention, and regain a stronger sense of inner calm and emotional balance.

In my work, I use methods and techniques from existential therapy, together with elements of Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and psychodrama.

Session Format

In-person sessions take place in central Tallinn.

Online sessions are available via Zoom, WhatsApp, or Microsoft Teams. If needed, we can arrange other meeting formats by prior agreement.

Sessions can be held in English.

Counselling Fees

An individual counselling session lasts 50 minutes.

The fee is €40 per session.

Sessions are available in person in Tallinn or online.

Some people come for a single consultation focused on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term counselling. The number of sessions is always determined individually and depends on your situation, goals, and needs.

Book a consultation

If intrusive thoughts are making it difficult for you to relax, make decisions, or experience a sense of inner calm, you are welcome to contact me to discuss your situation and arrange an initial consultation.

Book a consultation

["post-1215","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
